Green Ball Obsession

I have a little green plastic ball.

It was a present from my Grandma
when I joined the PugRanch.
I played with it now and then,
 I do love to fetch,
but it disappeared for a while.

It reappeared just recently
and it has become my new obession favorite toy.

I can entertain myself for hours with this little green ball.

I love for Mom or Dad to throw it down the hall
and I will run and bring it back.
I will take it up on the couch and
drop it off the side just to see where it goes.

Sometimes I put it in Dads shoe
Or I bat it under something --
table legs, end table, the bed, couch,
then dig and dig and dig to get it back out.
Sometimes Mom has to help me.
And when I get tired of playing inside
I take it out in the snow.
The cold makes the ball hard
and I can bat it all over the yard.

And when my feet get cold
we go back inside to play some more!

I just love my little green ball

Wishing everyone a safe
and Happy New Year!!

Great Christmas!

 We had a fun Christmas!
Most of the human kids and grandkids came over on
Christmas Eve for the great buffet.
Bailey & Hazel had to stay in the bedroom
while the feasting was going on,
but I got to mingle with the guests.
I did have to wear my collar and leash and
Mom & Dad took turns keeping me out of trouble.

So Hazel & I thought we would show you
some the great gifts we all got.

Just a second while I set things up.

WE got a new bed and some toys and some treats

Now for this next picture we have to put out a warning to our new friends Frankie Furter and Ernie

Dog Christmas Pawty!!!

Hazel got to go to the Dog Christmas Pawty
She wore her penguin PJ's

and everybody thought she looked soo cute.

They played some games, visited with friends

 and ate some snacks.
Then they had a gift exchange.
Each dog got to sniff all the presents
and pick one out for themselves!!

OMD look what Hazel picked out!

It was almost bigger than her!

But she was more interested in the treats
that were loose inside with the present!

A fun time was had by all!!

Heartfelt Thanks

I want to thank everyone for the kind comments left on yesterdays post for Olive. It was a tough day for me, and your caring thoughts helped ease the pain. She really was a special little girl.

It was my son and daughter that convinced me to get another puppy.
I really did not expect to get one as soon as we did but I had let the breeder know
if another "perfect match" came along I might be interested.
She happened to have another litter and she picked Greta out for us.

I have to admit that Greta has been a real challenge,
Where Olive had been sweet and smart,
Greta is naughty and smart.
At times I wasn't sure if we had done the right thing,
could I handle this ball of naughty energy.
But her naughtiness comes from being soo smart (and being a puppy of course),
she needs something to keep her little brain working
or she will find something on her own.

Greta loves to learn,
loves us,
loves family,
loves Bailey & Hazel,
she has such a zest for everything!
Greta takes everything she does to the next level
climbing in head first, no halfway for her.

But what Greta has done most is
helped pull me out of the despair I felt after Olives accident.
How I love my naughty Greta!
I wouldn't change her for the world.

Thank you for letting me share my special girls,
and all of my pug kids.

Olive - Our Littlest Angel

Mom told me Olive's story today.

You see I have always given Mom & Dad lots of kisses
but I have not been much of a snuggler until lately.
Just this last week or so I have snuggled with Mom alot.
She thought it was because I am starting to settle down a little,
but I could sense a sadness deep in her heart.
I knew she needed me.

Today would have been Olives' first birthday

and although it hurts sooo much,
Mom knew she needed to tell me and you about Olive.
Because if she didn't it would be like she was never here.

But she was, if only for a little while.

Mom told me that when CharShu went to wait
at the Rainbow Bridge in 2009,
it took her and Dad a long time to decide
to add another pug to the family.
When they did decide it was time,
it was Olive that Mom picked out.

Olive was only 5 weeks old and Mom waited 4 long weeks.
Tuesday Feb 21, 2012 was Olives gotcha day.
(hmm I was born the next day)
She came on an airplane
and traveled all day to her new home.
The plane was 3 hrs late
(mom was already stressed about Olive flying)
and that night she got to sleep on the bed right
in between Mom & Dad cause Mom could not stand the thought of putting her in the crate after such a long day.

Mom took the week off from work so she could help
Olive and Bailey and Hazel get to know each other.

Bailey was standoffish (he was with me too)
but Hazel played and chased with her new little sister
( just like she does with me now).
That first weekend the weather was nasty
with snow & wind.
It was hard to get the dogs outside to potty.
Olive had learned to use the ramp up to the bed right away
and Mom caught her on the bed peeing!
Mom no sooner got the comforter washed and on the bed,
Yep! up she went and peed again! Silly girl!
Three times she peed on the bed that day!
(I have never peed on the bed mom!)
( I know Greta but you have done plenty of other naughty things)

Olive was so sweet and so smart.
After that day she was showing signs of understanding
house training despite the winter cold.
She was soo funny about going poop,

she would go to the very edges of the yard to poop,
even going in the flower bed a few times.
(I do that too Mom)
(Yes, Greta. You do that too!)
(Olive must have let you know that Mom and Dad appreciated that)
Mom went back to work the next Monday.
Everybody was getting into a routine and it was
already like Olive had always been there.
Thursday evening Hazel & Olive were chasing around
and things were getting heated.
Mom thought Hazel was starting to get mad
so she scooped Olive up.
Olive relaxed for just a second
then squirmed right out of her arms.
(that's why sometimes Mom holds me extra tight)
She hit the floor and ran from the room crying.
Dad picked her up but she did not stop crying,
they knew something was terribly wrong.
Mom called their vet and they rushed her there.
The Dr. said that Olives brain was swelling,
she gave her a shot to try to stop the swelling
and another to try to relax her.
Mom was a total basket case.
Their wonderful doctor grabbed some supplies,
wrapped Olive in a blanket and said she would take her home with her and put her in bed right beside her
and care for her, it looked grim but call in the morning.

They went home and sat in silence
Mom prayed for a miracle
Dad prayed for God to do the right thing.

Olive only lived a few more hours.

Mom and Dad put together a special box for Olive's ashes
Her box sits center on the shelves along with the others
that are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
This is what it says on her box.

Those we have held in our arms for a little while
We hold in our hearts forever

In Loving Memory

See Beautiful - A Beautiful Friday

Today we are participating in a blog hop to benefit
St Annes Homeless Shelter Pet Area.
We have been asked to say how we see or experience Beautiful

Just this week we have experienced
 the Beautiful Power of Friendship.
We were witness to the power of an old friendship
that stands the test of time,
a friend that's there through thick and thin.
And we experienced the power of new friendships,
those we have only met through blogville,
but are willing to listen, encourage,
celebrate and grieve along with us.

You are all Beautiful.

At the PugRanch this week some beautiful things happened.
Hazel & Bailey do not snuggle with each other.
They are buddies and miss each other
when one is not home but they do not snuggle.
Greta has tried to share a bed with Hazel or Bailey
but they would always get up and move.

Then it happened!
Greta got in the bed with Hazel and Hazel did not move,
at least not right away.

Then yesterday Bailey & Hazel were together in one bed!

And then later it was Bailey & Greta together!

Oh what a Beautiful day!

Balancing Act

Everybody's been pretty busy shopping and
getting ready for Christmas
but I told Mom I needed to show you
what we did at Guinea Pig Class last week

Here I am practicing my sit on a square table

I was supposed to stand on this rubber thingy
but I wouldn't get all four feet on it.

It's supposed to help us learn balance
and to use our core --
whatever that means

I did better with this one

It was a little bigger
and I got to take it home to practice on.

Then we practiced walking and turning on this board.

One of the other puppies
was a little scared to get on it,
but not me.

I guess eventually it will be alot
higher off the ground
I say the higher the better!!!

Flashback Friday

Bailey's Accomplishments

In 2005 AKC offered Rally Obedience
as a new event in the obedience ring.

Bailey was one of the first dogs in our training group
to earn the Rally Novice Title.

And although Bailey loved spending the time with Mom,
he did not really like going to the obedience trials.
All the people and strange dogs seemed to stress him out.
He would bark alot at the other dogs,
which stressed Mom out.

We did participate in some for fun team competitions.
I designed this for our team shirts one year when he was
on a team with three girls!

In 2010 AKC added the Beginner Novice Class.
I thought this was a good opportunity to get Bailey
back in ring as there was no off leash work.
The first day we did not qualify -
he laid down on his sit stay.

But the second day - OH BOY!
First Place  198.5 pts out of 200!!
Third day - First place again!

We had to wait till the next year to
get that last leg for the title.
I entered us for two days just in case.
First Place both days!!

Trying to Catch the Wind

This last Sunday the wind was blowing sooooooo hard.
Mom was outside with us waiting
for us to do our bidness and
hoping the wind would not blow us all away.

The wind was swirling and blowing all around us
and I decided to try and catch it.
I jumped and twirled and snapped at the air!
Mom ran in the house
Dang, the Ipod was low on battery
so she grabbed her new phone hoping she
could get some video of me
dancing with the wind.

YES! she captured it perfectly!
Then she hit a button and it asked..

Do you want to Exit and Save?

She did not want to stop so she pushed no.

Woops!

So instead of the perfect video of
ME, GRETA
 dancing with the wind

you get this one of me and Bailey
running around, our ears flying!

Mom, I love ya but......
you really need to take the time to learn how to use your new phone!

Mr. Bailey is 10 yrs young!!

Mr Baileys Irish Cream

King of the Couch Pillows
TV Watcher
and man of many nicknames
turned 10 yesterday!

I can remember when we first brought him home

he strutted into the house like he owned the place

and all the toys were his

He grew into quite the handsome boy

Hence the nickname "Handsome Man"

He is also called
Bud
Mister
Mister Man
Bailey Man
Mister Groaner
and his least favorite
Humperdink

Bailey loves to watch TV
and will fluff the pillow for a head rest

 He knows every commercial
that has a dog or cat in it

And he makes sure to let
his boredom show when you are
watching something he doesn't like

Bailey is not much for playing with toys
but he has one favorite
the Purple Man

He doesn't actually play with it too much
but will take it up on the couch and lick and cuddle it
As you can see it is quite worn.
We tried to replace it once
but the new one just was not the same.

Here's to many more years with
our Handsome Bailey Man!

love,
Mom & Dad
