They're Home!

Mom and Dad are home from their trip!!

Hazel & I sure did miss them
but we were well taken care of
Human Son stayed here at our house with us
and my cousin Willow even came over to play.
And because Son had to work during the day,
Dad's sister came over mid-day to let us out to potty.

I told Mom she could share a few pictures with you.

Bodie is our oldest grandson.
We have watched him grow up playing baseball
from Little league, to High School ball,
American Legion baseball, and then college baseball.
The last two years of college took him faraway to Nebraska
and the last two summers he has played in a summer collegiate league in Swift Current, Saskatchewan

With Bodies' college career coming to an end,  my son offered to stay with the pugs so we could travel to watch some games and we jumped at the chance.

We left Tuesday morning and drove to Great Falls, Montana
Wednesday we drove the rest of the way to Swift Current

Two perfect nights at the ballpark
Two wins for the Swift Current 57's

Bodie is normally the catcher but was playing 1st base

He had some good at bats

and got on base and scored some runs

We had a wonderful time
and are so thankful we were able to make the trip

I even got a video of one of Bodie's hits

The girls will be back tomorrow!

Silly Mabel

Sometimes when Mom & Dad come home
and they've been gone for a while I get a little excited

They let me out of my crate and I am so beside myself
that I just have to grab something

I used to grab one of my blankets from my crate
but lately it has been one of the dog beds

I grab it and run around with it and whine and cry
to let mom & dad know how much I missed them
while they were gone

That's not so silly
is it???

Baby Bird part 3 - the Encounter

The baby bird seemed very reluctant to leave our yard.
Mom and Dad tried to be very careful
and not let us out when it was hanging out on the grass

But sometimes a dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do
Mom couldn't see the bird so we went outside

But there it was!
Sitting in the grass on the other side of the tree

Mom! Do you see what I see??

For several minutes I just stood and stared at it

then I laid down for a bit

while we just stared at each other

Hey Mom! I think I am going to move closer

Hi there little birdie!

My name is Mabel - what's yours?

Then it ran and flew up on a short fence

Are you sure you don't want to play??

Mom even got a short video of me trying to smell the birdie
and then I went on my way

The next day we did not see him and haven't since
He must have found his wings

Baby Bird Adventure Part 2

More of our baby bird story

When we first noticed the nest
there appeared to be 3 baby birds

Then one day there was only one and it seemed to be reluctant to leave our yard

Hazel - do you see what is going on over there??

The baby bird was hanging out in the corner

Then we saw the mom (or dad) on the fence above

The mom/dad bird would hop along the fence top
then down the other side and back up

Then it hopped down to the baby bird
who thought it was getting fed

The parent bird went through the same routine several times trying to encourage the baby to fly up and follow it

The baby never did follow the other bird.
It stayed right there in our yard.

Part 3 - my encounter with the baby bird  - tomorrow!

Hazel has become a very picky about her meals.
Mom is always looking for meal toppers to entice her to eat.
Initially Hazel thought this was quite yummy
but after a couple of days she lost interest in it.
The other downside was - it is a bit mushy so was a little difficult for her to get all eaten without it sticking to her bowl.

Although this seems to be a very good quality food
and I loved it
it did not quite work out for Hazel

Thank you Miss Natalie and Chewy

Baby Birds!

It sure has been hot here lately

We haven't been doing much but trying to keep cool

But we did discover something cute in our tree

Baby Birds!!

Do you see them with there mouths wide open??
The parents were bringing worms to feed them!

A few days later one of them was hanging out on our lawn

Mom and Dad would not let us out so we would not bother it

The mom & dad watched from the power line up above
We think they were trying to encourage it to fly!

The next day
I did have a face to face encounter with the baby bird
I will share that with you in another post

Our Boy is Home

Bailey returned home to us last week

His ashes already laid to rest in a beautiful cedar wood box

They even included a gold plate engraved with his name

On Sunday we put his collar
and a few dried flowers with him

The gold name plate went on top

and he took his place on one of the special shelves
with his old buddy Char Shu

The gift from the granddaughter looks pawfect
hanging in the middle

Things had over grown so much
Mom did just a little clean up
before placing Bailey's rock in the memorial garden

Mr Bailey's Irish Cream

We are back with more memories of our boy

Mr. Bailey was not the typical pug
He was tall for a pug and long in the body

But he had the pug deep chest

and he was such a handsome boy

Even after his black face started to turn gray
he was still just as handsome

He loved to watch TV

When he could still get up on the couch
he would fluff the pillows to get the pawfect chin rest

sometimes Dad's head worked just as well!

His favorite shows had lots of action
and anything with dogs or other animals
would get him barking

But sports bored him and he let you know it!

Bailey was not much for playing with toys
but he had one toy that was his absolute favorite.
We called it his "purple man".
He just liked to have it with him
and would lick it and cuddle it.
When it got so worn we bought him another that was exactly like it - but it was not the same to him

When Rally Obedience became a new dog sport in 2005
Bailey was one of the first in our training club to earn the Rally Novice Title

But he really did not enjoy going to the trials
and I started concentrating on training with Hazel

Five years later AKC added the Beginner Novice class. It is all on leash work except for the recall so I thought it would be a great chance to get him back in the ring

We entered three trials in August 2010
The first day he did well but laid down on the sit stay - NQ
The second day he was awesome
earning 198.5 points out of 200 and first place
The third day another first place score!

We had to wait till June of 2011
to get that third qualify to earn the title
We entered 2 days and two more first place scores!

When Bailey joined the family we had 3 older pugs
and Hazel made it five.
Over time 5 became 4 and then 4 became 3 for a while

When Char Shu left for the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 17
we were content with 2 - Bailey & Hazel - for 2 1/2 years

And then came Greta

Mom!
what am I supposed to do with this little thing???

One of my favorite pictures of the two of them

I wasn't ever sure if Bailey really liked Greta.
He would get grouchy with her if she invaded his space
and she learned to avoid him on the bed.
But when Greta died so unexpectedly,
Bailey got very depressed.
He must have loved her after all.

Bailey always loved a good walk

He loved being outdoors

The first time we took him camping
he was just a young pup.
We walked him and walked him
but could not get him to pee
We finally decided to go to bed and he promptly jumped up
and peed in the middle of the bed!

But over time he became a seasoned camper

He was not a big fan of dressing up but would tolerate it.

With Hazel on Halloween

A Christmas bow tie

Wearing his PugSnuggly coat which for some reason
he refused to go potty when he had it on

I embarrased him with pajamas one year

But he looked so handsome in his suit

Another  "really Mom?" moment

The last few years it got harder for Bailey
to go very far on walks

We got a great deal on this bike trailer/stroller at Costco
and both he and Hazel enjoyed going for a ride

We have plenty of dog beds around the house
but if one of the girls were in a bed that he wanted
he would move on in and expect them to move

Giving Angel Greta the "move it" look

If they did not move he would just force himself in!
Poor Hazel!

It always made me smile when I did catch him
sharing a bed with one of the girls

When Mabel joined the family
she seemed to sense right away
that Bailey would not play with her like Hazel does

She accepted that
and was content to just be gentle with him

She could often be seen joining him on the deck
for some sun

 Last summer,
Bailey was so lucky to meet his sweetheart Dory in the furs
Now they are together forever.

Thank you for walking down memory lane with us
in remembrance of a life well lived

 forever loved
