30 Day Food Challenge Part 2

We are now a couple of weeks in to our

30 day Rachel Ray Nutrish Peak food challenge

posed to us by our good friends at Chewy.com

First let me tell you that the transition to this food
was easy peasy.
No tummy or poop problems.
Hazel & I both like the food but then I like just about anything. Hazel had been hesitant to start eating her dinner  before and mom was hoping to see an improvement with this food but she still has to be coaxed to get started
(it is probably due to her medicine on her food than the food itself)
but once she gets started she eats with gusto

Unfortunately about a week into the challenge Hazel started doing the Butt Scootin' Boogie a lot.
Mom put her back on our other kibble
 and the scootin' has stopped.

A note from Mom
The recipe says Turkey, Duck and Quail with Turkey as the #1 ingredient
Looking at the ingredients I was disappointed to see that the Duck and Quail are low on the list, meaning less duck and quail than even beet pulp and cranberries. In fact chicken meal is much higher on the list. I would have expected it to be higher since it is promoted as "turkey, duck & quail"

Ingredients

  1. Turkey, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Dried Peas, Pea flour, Whole Dried Potatoes, Pea Protein, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Dried Plain Beet Pulp, Whole Flaxseed, Cranberries, Duck, Quail, Menhaden Fish Meal, Natural Flavor, Sweet Potatoes, Salt, Zinc Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Choline Chloride, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Niacin Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Calcium Iodate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid.

So I guess it is up to me to finish the 30 day challenge

We will give you our final thoughts in a couple of weeks!

disclaimer: as a #chewyinfluencer we were provided one bag of Rachel Ray Peak kibble in exchange for trying this food for 30 days and giving our honest review

  2. Great Review! Miss Natalie asked us to do it too, but Hunter is so picky and I knew I wouldn't be able to post as many pics as they wanted. Glad at least one of you liked it. Hunter has tried RR's dog kibble before but wouldn't eat it either.
    Silly dog!

  3. EXCELLENT review.... We can understand the disappointment... The NAME of the Kibble should be DIRECTLY correlated to the ACTUAL ingredients list. BUTT your mom was ON TOP of the situation.
HEY... that is another reason to LOVE having her HOME with you all of the time. RIGHT?

  6. The duck and quail thing is a disappointment. Wonder what was upsetting Hazel? We usually find grains are the annoying ingredient.

  7. Oh I like your take on the food . . . aside from the butt scoot. I was a little disappointed at the ingredient list. I expected all of the BIRD MEAT to be at the top of the list and not pea after pea after pea.

  10. Well, not every food works for every pup. You are great to give it a taste test. Thanks for the honest review.

  11. I would think those proteins would be higher on the ingredients list too. I am always skeptical of protein "meals" instead of the actual meats but I know most kibble has it. I hope this works well for you. ♥

  12. thanks for a great review, it sadly happens that the food fits not to all pups... but I'm curious for the final results after the challenge is finished...

  22. It's a tough job but somebuddy has to to do it!! I see that it has no rosemary so it's actually possible for us to use this food. I hope that the rest of the challenge goes well!

  23. I am sure you are up to the job of continuing the challenge on your own! Sorry it didn't work for Hazel.

  26. Pawsome review even if the ingredient results were somewhat disappointing. I don't know why dog food companies play this "semantics game" with their ingredient list. [insert eye roll here]
