Guinea Pig Pug

OMP!
I am soooo excited to tell you about
the fun I had last night that I can't hold still!

We go to training classes at
One Dog Makes A Difference
run by a nice lady named Jane.
She sent us an email and asked if we wanted to come
to an all new class for up and coming agility puppies.
She said me and some other dogs
 would be her Guinea Pigs.....

Huh???

Mom, I don't want to be a guinea pig,
I like me just as I am, a naughty pug!

Mom explained to me that it's just an expression
for being the very first to try something.
Then she told me it involved toys and lots of treats.

Well Yea!!! I'm In!!

I learned some new things
 and
I met some new friends!

This is Angus and London

They are brother and sister

Angus kinda liked me!

And this is me running so fast
I almost wasn't in the picture!

I can't wait for next week
when we will learn more fun things.

Kitchen Helpers

Hope everybody enjoyed
the Thanksgiving Holiday!

We sure did!

After dinner we were good helpers

Hazel did the pre-wash

and I assisted with loading the dishwasher

And as you can see
I really get into my work!

Then it was time for the Thanksgiving day nap

Bailey made sure to keep one eye open.

He didn't want to miss dessert!

Flashback Friday - White Chang & Mao Yen

Mao Ling Yen was born on this day in 1989!

But before I tell you about MaoYen
I have to tell you about my very first pug

White Chang

I had been fascinated by the pug breed since I was a teenager
but had not thought much about having one until my daughter came home one day and said there was a dog that needed a home, could we take her.
I told her no as we already had two dogs, a lab and a lab mix.
Then she said the magic word,
it's a PUG.

They thought she was about 6 yrs old and we were probably her 3rd home.
She had to have been much older,
her eyesight was failing and she had other health problems.
She quickly became devoted to me as she slept by my side each night.
When she became almost blind her sense of smell would always find me.
I only had her about 1 1/2 yrs. before she went to the bridge
but she opened my life to the wonderful world of pugs
and I knew I would always have one (or two or more!) in my life.

When the local pet store (back then I had no clue about puppy mills and rescue)
had pug puppies for sale I had to get another
I was recently divorced and Mao Yen was a birthday present to myself.

She quickly became queen of the house!

In 1992 after I had met my husband
MaoYen had a litter of 4 puglets

A C-section and the stress of finding good homes for the puglets
was enough to convince me that breeding was definitely not for me.
We kept one, our dear Char Shu.
Now when people ask "Do you breed them?"
I say "No, I just love them"

Somewhere in between film and digital and grandkids
I could not find too many pictures of
MaoYens' middle years but I came across this picture of her
after she had a growth removed from her head.
She was not too impressed with wearing the bandage wrap

The tongue was already making an appearence back then
and it was immortalized in this chalk drawing of MaoYen
my husband surprised me with one Christmas.

What a sweet old lady she was

Her last year or so was difficult.
She started acting lost and confused.
It gradually got worse.
She would sleep in the day and wander the house at night,
finding herself in a corner and would not know how to get out.
Our Vet told us it was basically a dog form of Alzhiemers.

Medication helped her (and us) sleep
but she was no longer with us either way.

Just past her 13th birthday we said goodbye

Mao Ling Yen
11/23/1989 - 12/07/2002

I will be forever thankful to these two beautiful pug ladies
for coming into my life and showing me the joy of being owned by a pug

love, Mom

The Boring Pugs

So me & Bailey & Hazel are not
the only pugs that live in our house.
There are actually alot more but
they don't do anything but just sit there.

BOOORING!!!

Like this big guy.
I tried to get him to play ball with me
when I first came to live here.

I even chewed on his foot a little,
but he just looked the other way.

And how about these two.

Hey!!   Guys!!
Wanna Play???

I know they can move cause they usually hang out in the living room
but they were in the study while mom was cleaning.

I tried the casual approach

I whispered in the old guys ear.

I even gave him kisses

See what I mean?

BOOOORING!!

Stick Report

No that's not a big cigar in my mouth!
It's my fake stick that Mom & Dad got for me.

Some of you wanted to know
how I liked my fake stick.

After the initial excitement
when it came out of the package,
I totally ignored it for about a week.

Just when Mom was thinking about
taking it back to the store
I decided to give it a try

Now that I have it broke in
I really like it!
So excuse me while I go back to chewing!

Winter Jammies!

A package arrived last week and Mom said
it was for the three of us!!

Can we open it Mom??
What's in it???

Its our pajama's that Mom ordered from
Pug Possessed's Etsy Shop

Which pair is mine??

I couldn't wait to find out!

Mom got them for us to wear in our
Christmas pictures
but we couldn't wait to try them on!

Hazel looks great in the red.

Of course Bailey is quite handsome
in the blue jammies.

And pink is definitely my color!!!

Flashback Friday

Hazel's Accomplishments
Hazel earned her Rally Novice Title in 2006.
Three days, three qualifying scores!
In 2007 she got her first leg towards
her Companion Dog Title in obedience
with a score of 189.5 out of 200.
I only go to a couple of shows each year
and in 2008 we did not qualify once.
Close, but there would be one thing that would
keep us from qualifying.
Then June 2009 she finished her Companion Dog title
in fine style with two first place scores.

Later that summer Hazel earned
her Rally Advanced title.
Three days, Three qualifying scores.

BUT.......
Mom messed up and entered us in the wrong class.
I entered us in the "A" Class but because
she had earned her C.D. title we were
supposed to be in the "B" Class.
AKC would not award her the title.
And in true silly pug fashion
we have not gotten a qualifying score since!!
(she would rather be a clown)

We took this year off from Rally
but we did enter a Veterans Class
in obedience for dogs 7 yrs and older
that have an obedience title.

We tied for 3rd Place!

Recall

Off leash heeling

Sit Stay

People are surprised when a pug
out performs some of the more traditional obedience breeds!!
look out - Greta's next!

Sweet? Hazel

So while helping Mom with Hazel's birthday story,
I could not help but notice
that the word "sweet" was used alot.

Well let me tell you,
 she's not always so sweet.
In fact she can play pretty dang rough.

Sometimes Mom and Dad
 have to settle
her (OK, us) down.

And she may have mellowed with age
but looking through old pictures
it appears that she had a naughty side as well!!!

(Don't tell Mom, but Hazel gives me some pretty good ideas, Hee Hee.)
