Beauty in Tragedy

Today we are participating in the
hosted by our beautiful friend SUGAR

First,
there has been a lot of this
at our house the last few weeks

Mom and Dad have both been sick so
we have have been here but not here
if you know what I mean

Mom finally got to stay home from work today
She wasn't sure what to post today
then she saw it was See Beautiful Friday
and read Easy's post about memories in pictures.

And she thought about last weekend
and how she saw

Beauty in the midst of Tragedy

A new years eve auto accident on icy roads
claimed the lives of two young men in our community

One of them was a childhood friend of the grandson
Best of friends in earlier years
not as close in high school
but they were brothers on the football field
Both home from college for the holidays they
had been trying to find time to get together when the tragic news came

When she heard, mom called her son
he was going through the hundreds of photos he had taken over the years
of the boys at sporting events (his hobby is sports photography)
He knew how important these memories would be to the family.
Along with other family photos he was able to put together
a 30 minute slide show that was shown at the funeral home
as friends and family gathered in support.

Beauty in Tragedy

Saturday was the funeral
Thirty young men lined the aisle of the church to honor
their friend as the casket was brought in

Beauty in Tragedy

At the cemetery, the last prayers had been said
when his friends and team mates gathered around the casket
for one last football cheer

hoorah hoorah hoorah HOORAH!

Beauty in Tragedy

Sunday, Mom was expecting the son and family to come over and watch
the 49r's football game. But they decided to do something different.
Knowing the grandson would be going back to college soon,
the need to make some family memories outweighed watching football on TV
So they went out with the camera and took some beautiful family photos

That sad morning,  when going through all the pictures, the son realized that while he had thousands of sports pictures, they no longer were taking many of just family stuff
and that needed to change

  3. Aw, so glad your family could find the Beauty in Tragedy, Kids. It is important to capture those Beautiful moments we want to remember because they can help cure a broken heart, if only a little bit at a time.

  4. Oh how sad, that's really a tragedy. But that slide show at the funeral was just a wonderful gesture. (many thanks to grandson that was nice). We always were angry, when my grampy made a bazillion of photos to all reasons , but he always says: be glad that we have the chance to make photos, even when you look crazy. I think he is right.... Thanks for this very touching but beautiful post.

  6. That is so sad. It is hard sometimes to see anything good in tragedy but there is always a glimmer of sunshine somewhere.

  7. A sad story indeed. We often got so involved in the day to day of our lives that we forget the little things, like a family portrait.

  16. Beautiful that your son could offer comfort in a photo tribute at the funeral. We have lost 2 nephews as teens, one suddenly, the other after many years with cancer. I have an inkling of how much your son's efforts meant to the grieving family. Well done.
