Hi Friends - Angel Greta here!
In 2013 Mom & I had a special button giveaway for
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Despite my unexpected departure for the Rainbow Bridge in 2014
we have continued our giveaway each year with great success
This year is extra special because
Mom is celebrating 5 yrs as a Breast Cancer Survivor.
Mom is celebrating 5 yrs as a Breast Cancer Survivor.
I came into Mom's life just a few months
after she completed her radiation treatments
after she completed her radiation treatments
and I was an important part of her overall recovery.
so once again we want to share with you the story of .....
How I Became Mom's "Pink" Dog
by Angel Greta
Mom has never like the color PINK
her favorite colors are green and purple
but.....
you may have noticed that
Mom was told she needed a biopsy
Two days before the start
of Breast Cancer Awareness month
of Breast Cancer Awareness month
Mom was told she had breast cancer
Then not only did she not like PINK
she hated PINK!
Trying to come to terms with the Big C diagnoses
and PINK was in her face everywhere she went
Surgery was scheduled followed soon after
by 6 weeks of radiation
by 6 weeks of radiation
She does her wellness check ups every year
so her cancer was caught early
She has a family that loves her and needs her
and she will be here for them
for a long time to come
Mom realized that during
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
she can let people know that
early detection saves lives
so she decided
to embrace the color "PINK"
and that, my friends
is how I became Mom's "PINK" dog.
Dear Furiends!
please make sure your loved ones
educate themselves about the risks of breast cancer
and the importance of self exams and mammograms if they are over 40,
earlier if there is a history of breast cancer in the family
Early detection can make such a difference !

ReplyDeleteOh darling Angel Greta, you know I am a full on supporter of pink these days too (having also never been a fan); mum was a successful recoverer from the breast cancer... sadly, 14 years later, another much more mean and aggressive lower body cancer took her from us - but not without her cheating it for a further three years; I sadly lost my last Greta pin because I was silly and put it on a bag and it, must have caught somewhere. If you feel you could send me a replacement, I shall be certain to put it where it cannot go astray!!! I'll mail my addy to mum again, just to be sure. Sending lots of Love and Light to you over the rainbow and to your gorgeous and Loving earth-bound furmily. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
I hope your mom can celebrate this anniversary now efurry year and fur ever and ever... The mama gave the Greta button to her BFF who celebratet her 5 years in 2015... she wears it today like she wore it the last year... even when she has to say "no, sadly not" when people ask her if she has a pug now (to have one is her greatest dream, but she will wait till she is retired. she even has a name for her hypothetically pug: Rambo)
ReplyDeleteOh Greta, I love your seeing your face on the blog. Keep fighting for this great cause!
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWe always love reading your story! Momma isn't a big fan of pink either, but she loves it because it's YOUR color!
ReplyDeleteThat is so pawsome your mum is celebrating her fifth year cancer free!
ReplyDeleteWe are sure Angel Greta had a lot to do with helping her recover.
Here's to many more years of fun and happiness with the pups.

Happy 5th year of being cancer free. My mom's friend who we gave one of Angel Greta's buttons to is now 2 years cancer free. Her friend still has major medical issues due to the treatment being so aggressive but she's a real trooper.

ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic story...one with a happy ending. Glad your mum is feeling in the PINK! SHE has a mammogram every two years. They're free here, for women of a certain age. But younger women need to be watchful, too. Great message.
