How I Became Mom's "Pink" Dog

Mom has NEVER liked the color PINK
her favorite colors are green and purple
but...

you may have noticed that I
wear a lot of PINK

 Two years ago something happened

After having her yearly check up
Mom was told she needed a biopsy

Two days before the start of
Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mom was told she had breast cancer

Then not only did she not like PINK
she HATED PINK
Trying to come to terms with the Big C diagnoses
and PINK was in her face everywhere she went.

Surgery was scheduled and followed soon after
by 6 weeks of radiation treatments

It was then that Mom began to realize
just how lucky she was

She does her wellness check ups every year
so her cancer was caught early

She has a family that loves her and needs her
and she will be here for them
for a long time to come

  Mom realized that during
 Breast Cancer Awareness Month
she can let people know that
early detection saves lives

so she decided
 to embrace the color "PINK"

 and that
is how I became Mom's "Pink" dog.

Dear Furiends!
please make sure your loved ones
educate themselves about breast cancer and the importance of mammograms if they are over 40,
earlier if there is a history of breast cancer in the family.
Early detection can make such a difference!

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
we are having a little giveaway!

From the Café Press Shop of
we have
12 pug w/pink ribbon mini buttons
(1” diameter) to send out to our friends

They look great on a blouse, lapel, or pinned on a hat (that’s where Mom’s human son wore his).
Maybe you want to show support for someone close to you that is battling this disease
or just want to help spread awareness.
Maybe your peep is a survivor like our MOM.
We need our peeps to take care of themselves
so they can take care of us!

Just leave us a comment between now and Friday
letting us know you would like a button

  5. We are happy that your mom was able to fight that terrible disease and learned to love pink. Pink is a good colour for you. Our Lady has a good friend who has recently beaten the big breast C for the second time, so she knows how terrible it can be. May we find a cure/prevention soon! Lee and Phod who love your buttons

  6. So glad your Mom has embraced pink. I have worked in the OB/GYN field for 24 years, so I see daily how this disease effects females and males and their families. I would gladly wear one of these buttons every day.

  10. Hi Idaho Pug Ranch furkids and MOM. We are so glad you are a SURVIVOR! Breast Cancer has unfortunately been a part of our lives for a long time. My Mommy #2's grandma died from it, her mom had it, her BFF's cousin has it, and so on. It is not a legacy we dwell on. Because of it, though we are HUGE supporters of Breast Cancer research and awareness. We whip out the pink every October to call attention to this disease. Me, I happen to like pink as does Mommy #1. Mommy #2 would prefer red, but that is another women's cause. But I am getting away from the point. . . YAY PINK! Let's erase breast cancer from existence!
PeeEss: the buttons are gr8! Put me in the running!

  14. And now I love the color pink too- because of the story you just told us about. Your mom is a brave lady to talk and speak her heart- and to tell us the importance of early detection,, and how she is a survivor-- and those words can help so many people to have hope.
I am sorry your momma had a scare like that-- and we are all so happy your momma is okay-- and that we have all of you to love.

  19. Oh we know all about the big C. Mom had to have a biopsy not to long ago. She didn't have cancer but she has to go back next month for her 6 month check to make sure everything is still in her favor. Paws crossed we will still have good news. Guess what my mom's favorite color is green also but she respects the Pink.

    Aroo to you,

  21. Thanks for posting this. We are so glad your mom is ok and we have had many friends who have this disease it can be so scary. A few years ago our mom needed to have several tests and while she only had a benign lump she was so scared because she is young. We are glad you are there for your mom and we know she will be fine. One good friend of ours has had one reocurrence and is still here 12 years later

  23. Oh, I am so THRILLED your Moms is cancer free and doin' FABulous!!! This is such a great postie!! Ma's dogtor keeps tellin' her that she should start gettin' those grammy thingies, butts without insurance, it's not high on the list. I knows some peeps don't like this ACA, butts Ma will now be able to afford the insurance that can have her tested, and if somethin' (God forbid!!) is found, she could actually do something abouts it. Don't get me wrong, she does self examines and goes every single year to the gyno lady for examines and everythings, butts it is not cheap. Especially where we live. I'll feel betters when Ma can gets some insurance to be sure.
So, puts me down for one of those FABulous buttons!!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥
