Hazel here today
to tell you about the pain in my neck.
I am not talking about Mabel
I look pretty happy in the above picture but
I have not been feeling that happy lately
I have been experiencing some pain in my neck area
Two rounds of prednisone did not get me better.
It made me feel better but
as soon as we backed the dosage off the pain returned.
Tuesday I had xrays done
and it seems I have a collapsed disc area
The best we can do is to manage the pain as best we can
so for now I will take prednisone and gabapentin.
If I get feeling really good we will reduce the prednisone and see how it goes. My dogtor would like it if I could just take the gabapentin (if it helps me) and only take the prednisone if I have a bad flareup. The goal is to keep me comfortable on the least amount of meds.
The hardest part is keeping me and Mabel from playing too hard. Our favorite thing to do is grab each others necks and shake but Mom & Dad won't let us do that anymore
Other than that I am fine -
I am at a good weight - 14.8 lbs
so no diet necessary thank goodness!

I don't know if it's availible in your area, but acupuncture was really helpful to Bart when he was having neck issues. Sending Rottie kisses!ReplyDelete

We'll keep our paws crossed for you. Neck grabbing and shaking is our favourite game, too!ReplyDelete
Deary me... when playtime is curbed, it really is a pain! You are being really well cared for Hazel, so will include you in my POTP each day that the meds do their work quickly and you can manage it minimally! Bart's suggestion of accupuncture is a good one - works wonderfully for doggies! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
We have a friend who is on similar medication. When he went on it he couldn't walk and now he is slowly walking again and the future looks bright for him. Hope it works as well for you my lovely friendReplyDelete
Ah!! Belle and Maddie play rough too! Maddie takes prednisone. The only thing I hate about it is that it changes her appetite.ReplyDelete
Sending you love little Hazel!! Omgosh wish we all lived closer. Belle would just love her!! Xxoo
Oh gosh, I am so sorry! That sounds awful. Ruby strained her neck a few weeks ago, but fortunately the pain was only temporary.ReplyDelete
That must be awful for you. We hope your medication works and you feel some relief soon.ReplyDelete

Oh no! That is terrible! We hope the medications will work to keep you feeling better!ReplyDelete
My human grandma took gabapentin for her pain and she had to get off of it cause it confused her and she couldn't remember thinks. Don't know if it has the same side effects in dogs just be aware if you start acting goofy.ReplyDelete
Aroo to you,
A pain in the neck is no fun. Hope the medicine works the way you are hoping it will so you can not take the prednisone.ReplyDelete
Hope your neck feels better soon and the only pain in it is Hazel! teehee!ReplyDelete
Oh Hazel, we are so sorry to hear about your neck. That must be so uncomfortable for you. Phantom was on gabapentin for a while and it helped his legs a lot. We hope it does the same for you. All paws crossed.ReplyDelete

Neck pains are very hard to live with. I know because it happened to me too when I was younger (a lot younger) and ran into the steps when I tried to jump up 3 steps at a time. (Not a good idea when you have short legs). I had to have surgery butt I'm all better now. I'm sending you lots of POTP for a quick recovery.ReplyDelete
We are so sorry you are in pain, Hazel! We hope that the gabastuff works...we totally understand not wanting to take too much medicine (Arty can't take any kind of steroid cause he goes all Cujo).....We ARE happy you don't have to be on a diet!!ReplyDelete
POTP for less pain headed your way!!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
PeeEss...You have the cutest puggy smile!
Sorry to hear about your sore neck Hazel. We hope the medicine helps you and we glad you don't have to go on a diet. Milo & JetReplyDelete
You and I are too similar, Hazel. Same pain in the neck and even the same meds!!! Actually, the pred didn't help me so I stopped it. But I hope it helps you, and that you gradually get better and better. Thank goodness on the "no diet" news!ReplyDelete
Oh, that's no fun! Any pain in the spine/neck area is tough to take! I hope the pills - and some curtailed play sessions - will help! (Isn't it nice when the vet - or the doc - says you don't have to go on a diet?!)ReplyDelete
Hazel, we have been thinking of you a lot and wondering how you were doing.ReplyDelete
Were so sorry, that your necky is hurting, and has a bad disk in it. Its no fun to hurt and cry.
I hope the prednisone and gabapentin medicines will make you feel better.

I have a pain in the neck too, his name is Niles! BOL! No, butts really....we hope that you get to feeling better soon! Maggie, our senior sister had the same thing happen not to long ago and she had to be put in Jail cause Niles likes to agitate her and she tries to bite him and the dogter said that someone need jail time to relax!!! It took a couple of weeks and now she is back to her wonderfully grouchy self!!!ReplyDelete
Oh Hazel, I'm so sorry you have a pain in the neck! My Chico is taking prednisone and it's really helped him oh so much! But he's taking it for a different reason. I hope that the meds work and that you'll start feeling better super soon.ReplyDelete
I am sorry you have a booboo neck and I will cross paws for you to get better. I hope Mabel will understand and take it easy on you. Try to rest and maybe you need a back rub.ReplyDelete
Hi Hazel! I'm so sorry to hear your neck is bothering you. I hope the meds help to keep you comfortable. I make my dad give me massages - perhaps you can convince your 'rents to give you one, too. In that one photo it looks like Mabel's applying a "warm compress" to your neck, and by warm compress, I mean her head. :)ReplyDelete
We are so sorry your not feeling very well Hazel! Sending you lots of hugs and get well wishes!ReplyDelete
