We are back with more memories of our boy
Mr. Bailey was not the typical pug
He was tall for a pug and long in the body
But he had the pug deep chest
and he was such a handsome boy
Even after his black face started to turn gray
he was still just as handsome
He loved to watch TV
When he could still get up on the couch
he would fluff the pillows to get the pawfect chin rest
sometimes Dad's head worked just as well!
His favorite shows had lots of action
and anything with dogs or other animals
would get him barking
But sports bored him and he let you know it!
Bailey was not much for playing with toys
but he had one toy that was his absolute favorite.
We called it his "purple man".
He just liked to have it with him
and would lick it and cuddle it.
When it got so worn we bought him another that was exactly like it - but it was not the same to him
When Rally Obedience became a new dog sport in 2005
Bailey was one of the first in our training club to earn the Rally Novice Title
But he really did not enjoy going to the trials
and I started concentrating on training with Hazel
Five years later AKC added the Beginner Novice class. It is all on leash work except for the recall so I thought it would be a great chance to get him back in the ring
We entered three trials in August 2010
The first day he did well but laid down on the sit stay - NQ
The second day he was awesome
earning 198.5 points out of 200 and first place
The third day another first place score!
We had to wait till June of 2011
to get that third qualify to earn the title
We entered 2 days and two more first place scores!
When Bailey joined the family we had 3 older pugs
and Hazel made it five.
Over time 5 became 4 and then 4 became 3 for a while
When Char Shu left for the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 17
we were content with 2 - Bailey & Hazel - for 2 1/2 years
And then came Greta
Mom!
what am I supposed to do with this little thing???
One of my favorite pictures of the two of them
I wasn't ever sure if Bailey really liked Greta.
He would get grouchy with her if she invaded his space
and she learned to avoid him on the bed.
But when Greta died so unexpectedly,
Bailey got very depressed.
He must have loved her after all.
Bailey always loved a good walk
He loved being outdoors
The first time we took him camping
he was just a young pup.
We walked him and walked him
but could not get him to pee
We finally decided to go to bed and he promptly jumped up
and peed in the middle of the bed!
But over time he became a seasoned camper
He was not a big fan of dressing up but would tolerate it.
With Hazel on Halloween
A Christmas bow tie
Wearing his PugSnuggly coat which for some reason
he refused to go potty when he had it on
I embarrased him with pajamas one year
But he looked so handsome in his suit
Another "really Mom?" moment
The last few years it got harder for Bailey
to go very far on walks
We got a great deal on this bike trailer/stroller at Costco
and both he and Hazel enjoyed going for a ride
We have plenty of dog beds around the house
but if one of the girls were in a bed that he wanted
he would move on in and expect them to move
Giving Angel Greta the "move it" look
If they did not move he would just force himself in!
Poor Hazel!
It always made me smile when I did catch him
sharing a bed with one of the girls
When Mabel joined the family
she seemed to sense right away
that Bailey would not play with her like Hazel does
She accepted that
and was content to just be gentle with him
She could often be seen joining him on the deck
for some sun
Last summer,
Bailey was so lucky to meet his sweetheart Dory in the furs
Now they are together forever.
Thank you for walking down memory lane with us
in remembrance of a life well lived
forever loved

ReplyDeleteDear Linda you are for sure the Pug Whisperer all your Pugs have been so talented in the competition. Each of them in their own way accepting of each other. Mr. Bailey was the purrfect gentleman with each new sister. I used to think his legs seemed longer now I know they were. I did so love the photos with Angels Greta and Dory. I can see them all romping and loving pain free OTRB.
